What is the NDIS?
The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is an Australian Government initiative designed to fund supports for eligible people with disabilities. It helps participants gain greater independence, access new skills, find employment or volunteer opportunities, and enjoy a better quality of life.
Each participant receives an individualised care plan tailored to their goals, aspirations and required supports. Plans typically span 1–3 years and evolve over time to reflect changes in your life and circumstances.
Can I change providers?
Yes, absolutely. Every participant has the right to choose or change providers at any time. The process and notice periods are usually outlined in your service agreement or the provider’s policies and procedures, so it’s a good idea to review these before making changes.

What types of supports does NDIS funding cover?
NDIS funding is divided into three key categories:
- Core Supports – Everyday assistance with personal care, daily living activities, and other disability-related needs. This is the most flexible category, allowing you to use funding across several sub-categories.
- Capacity Building Supports – Services that help build your independence and skills, such as therapy, transport and in-home supports. Unlike Core Supports, these funds cannot be transferred between sub-categories.
- Capital Supports – Funding for high-cost items such as assistive technology, equipment, home or vehicle modifications, or one-off purchases like Specialist Disability Accommodation.
At present, the supports offered by Achieve Disability Services fall under the Core category.
